Heavenly Hell (Heavenly Hell Book 1) Page 12
Making my way through the other room, I found he was not there either. I was delightfully happy to find my man standing amongst a group of attractive, willing women in the kitchen. My tactic would be to play the non-interested girl. That way, he would pursue me only because it would be a great conquest for him.
Squeezing myself in to pour a beer, I walked away without making any eye contact with anyone. I could feel his curiosity peeking through his relaxed gaze. I joined the fray on the dancing area and closed my eyes as I swayed my body from side to side, oozing out as much sensuality as I could muster. I felt a pair of hands come from behind me. The body moved to the music in the same flow as mine. I slid out from his hold, moving away to a new space. I was aware of my target's whereabouts, and his eyes were lingering on me.
The music changed to a fast beat, so I provocatively twisted my hips to emulate a belly dancer's movements. I was enjoying the moment and felt free away from my new mortal enemy. Other guys tried to join me by dancing close, but I simply turned away. They got the idea. Turning toward my target, I smiled sweetly at him then turned away. The message was delivered loud and clear. He glided over with moves as smooth as a snake and wrapped his arms around me. We became one with the music and grinded into each other, binding a connection that would not end in the way he imagined. His lips moved up and down my neck, and his hands wandered down my thighs and ascended my waist. He became more adventurous, cupping my breast discreetly as time went on.
I witnessed the approving looks from his friends as they thought he would certainly add to his growing number tonight.
“Would you like to continue this party in my room?” he whispered in my ear while stroking my mid-thigh. I simply nodded in agreement and let him lead me away.
Once in his room, he launched himself into me, pushing me against the bed, trying to undo the zipper on my pants. My sweetness was about to dissolve. I turned us around, threw him on the bed, and placed my shoe between his legs over his delicate package. Applying pressure, I forced what was left of my sweet exterior to disappear and looked at him with a cold, hard profile.
“Are you aware that you are spreading chlamydia?” I asked with an icy tone.
“Oh babe, that's harmless, all you do is take a pill and it clears up,” smugness dripped from his voice.
I forced my shoe harder into his groin and rotated it.
“It's not that easy, bucko, you can stuff up a woman’s reproductive organs.”
“Well if they’re going to open their legs for a complete stranger, what do they expect? Look at the clothes most girls wear. They have no self-respect whatsoever, anyway. So why should I respect them?”
Lightning fast, I removed my foot and slammed it into the side of his face, leaving a red mark.
“Oh, I like it rough, come here sexy." Grabbing my arms he tried to force me on the bed. He was remarkably strong for a human.
I grabbed him by the shoulders and geared myself up to kick him through the wall. He ended up on the other side of the room in the opposite direction I had intended. Large strong hands grabbed my arms, propelled me out of the room, down the stairs and forced me into a car.
“Nate! You absolutely asshole, you have no idea what I was doing back there!” I infuriatingly yelled at him.
“Are you freaking kidding me? You were one second away from pounding him into a pulp! His anger was a real as mine. “And getting your boyfriend to stage your escape was pretty lame.”
“He is not my boyfriend. It’s none of your business what we are.”
The entire way back to my house we argued fiercely. The car was becoming too small for the both of us. As soon as we pulled up to my house, I ran out. I was slammed against the ground as Nate tackled me. I tried to force him off me, but his hand came up to my neck, pinning me down.
“I’ll kill you now, Indy. I won’t wait,” said Nate.
I struggled under him, moving my limbs to allow me a little room. Positioning my leg, I kneed him as hard as I possibly could. Instead of moving off me and protecting his male parts, he went limp on me and moaned in agony. I think he passed out. It did little to help me. He was unintentionally cutting off my air supply. This wouldn't kill me—just cause torturous pain. A wet, cold substance washed over us both. This woke him up, and he was now manageable to move. Rolling him off me, he was now clutching himself.
“Oh, Indy, was it seriously necessary to do that to him? I can feel his pain," Connor commented sympathetically.
I didn’t want to chat with Connor about what had happened. I had nearly gone too far. I had seen red, just before Nate pulled me away. I could have done a lot of unnecessary damage tonight to that college boy that he may not have recovered from. I usually had restraint and knew when I had done enough damage that it would prove to be a good lesson, but tonight that wasn’t the case. Once he tried to gain control of the situation, I wanted to snap him. I wanted pure control and nothing else. I nearly hurt this boy beyond his own healing abilities. I didn’t know what was happening to me anymore.
Chapter Twenty-One
Nate
I parked my car in the usual parking spot tonight, right behind Indy’s car to prevent her from leaving and causing any more trouble. Connor kept looking out the window, and I just smiled back every time. This was going to be a hard, long weekend, and I wasn’t looking forward to it at all.
Connor came rushing out the door yelling at me, so I got out of the car, and he decided that invading my personal space was a smart choice. I put my hands up and gained a small amount of distance between us, but he was still too close.
“Calm down, man. I’m not here to upset you,” I tried to reason with him.
“You have sat out front in our driveway for days now. Just leave us alone,” said Connor.
“Like I said, I’m not here to start trouble with you.”
“You’re stalking my best friend, so you are starting trouble. I know what Indy is and she is not hurting any of us.”
“You have no idea what she is capable of, and I do,” I pleaded with Connor.
“Mate, you need to go back, do your research, and get your facts right.” Connor stepped closer to me again, trying to intimidate me.
This didn’t seem right. Indy would have been out here by now getting in between the pair of us. She was very protective of Connor and would have come out half naked if she needed to. Pushing him aside, I ran into the house. I listened for any noises upstairs indicating she was up there, but heard nothing. This floor was empty also.
Turning to Connor, I yelled at him, “Where is she?”
“Why would I tell you? She hates you,” venom dripped from Connor’s voice. He loved her, and this wasn’t the time to be protective.
“Do you understand that if she kills someone on purpose or by accident, I have to kill her? No questions asked.”
“She is centuries old, and you’re a seventeen year old boy.”
“I have been gifted and given the necessary powers to kill those who are evil.”
“She is not evil or a demon,” Connor was speaking to me like I was stupid.
“Then justify what she is doing tonight. Put all of your feelings for her and me aside. Is it right?”
Connor was internally juggling with this situation. He wasn’t a bad person and truly believed that Indy wasn’t either. I was curious to find out what he thought she was. He was adamant she was not the cold, heartless demon I knew she was. It was true that I had seen kindness toward her friends, but was she only using them to hide her true identity?
“Connor, tell me. I promise if she hasn’t hurt anyone I will bring her back in one piece,” I was pleading to the person who loved her. He seemed tormented by this decision and gave up.
“There is a party at the university,” Connor seemed ashamed that he had shared that information with me.
Wasting no time, I sprinted out the front door and into my car. I could not drive fast enough. I had not seen her in action, only heard of her countless vict
ories. The data I had collected showed she knew no mercy and fed off the fear of weak men. Connor and Indy both believed that she wasn’t this evil creature, but how could she preform these tasks and not be a demon? Normal people do not hunt down men and beat the life out of them. She presented all of the characteristics of a demon. In my experience, if it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck … well, you know the rest.
The building was easy to find. It had the usual inebriated fools out front. I didn’t park the car properly, but I wasn’t staying either. The party was in full swing, the drinks were overflowing, and the drugs were rife. These young adults had no shame when it came to their drug habits, and did it willingly out in the open. My first job after leaving would be to call the police.
Indy would be upstairs in a bedroom. She was discreet with her dealings and didn’t want people to know about her. All of the rooms sounded occupied so I started to force doors open to find the correct one. The third door was locked. This was the one. Busting the door in, she didn’t even hear the noise. She was in her element kicking this guy’s face in. He tried to overpower her and was actually doing an okay job. I was afraid Indy would snap, so I threw him out of the way and carried her out of the room, down the stairs, and into my car.
The pink signature that Indy carried was laced with a black, tar-like smell. This was new and not appealing. This sent my adrenaline into overdrive. I gripped the wheel, not game to let go. My hand yearned to snap her neck with one clean movement. I pushed the feeling aside. Indy was not herself at the moment; the insults coming from her mouth were supercharged with bite. I tried to distract myself by bickering back, but this just intensified my adrenaline.
My hand left the steering wheel and headed toward her. I fought with all my inner strength and prayed to God that I would not break my promise to Connor
The car didn’t even come to a halt, and she jumped out. Foolishly, I slammed on the brakes and ran out after her, tackling her to the ground. My pride was damaged badly shortly after. I forgot to protect my manhood and ended up with a severe case of being de-knackered. I was momentarily incapacitated. When I came to, I got out of there as soon as possible.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Indiana
Connor and I stayed at home watching the entire Supernatural series over the weekend. The others were going to watch some zombie movie at Brandon’s house, but we declined their invitations. I didn’t really want to pretend to like my adversary at the moment.
By Monday, I was relaxed and eager to start a new week. The gang was standing under a tree today because it was unbelievably hot. Nate had a stupid grin on his face when he saw me approaching.
I was about to wipe it off his face. I leaned in to give him a morning kiss, which everyone had become accustomed to. Much to my surprise, he opened his mouth and kissed me back. I pulled my head away in disgust. He grasped my neck and started to eat my lips. I stupidly found myself responding and kissed him back.
It started off viciously painful. Rough emotions and bitterness fuelled my need to not let him gain the upper hand. Kissing him back was not something I wanted, but felt I needed to do. The pressure of this entire situation was being released from me and pouring onto his mouth. The tightness in which I gripped his arms created cramps in my hands. Even though this embrace was created through dislike, it eased some of the centuries of painful loneliness I had suffered.
Something clicked in the both of us, and I melted into his soft meaningful cuddle, as he stroked my back. His tongue glided into my mouth and mine gently stroked his in return. There was a passion that had built up in us that had been born from the unkind embrace. These kisses felt real and comforted my black heart.
“Would you like us to give you guys some privacy?" Annoyance and a hint of jealousy laced Connor’s voice.
Instantly, I realized who I was sucking face with, and it was now my turn to run off like a baby. Going home would not be an option, but just a way to escape the problem. Pushing him off, I grabbed my bag and headed inside school. I heard footsteps run after me, and Nate whispered in a hateful tone.
“Indy, I warned you, I would turn your own tactics against you.” He grabbed my hand and held it tight as we walked to one of our first classes together.
Mark had caught up to us. “Gosh, that kiss was pretty hot. I was hoping you guys would get raunchier.”
I ignored this comment and many others which followed. Nate held my hand during every single class, except for Rec Activities. Mr. Hopwood was the only reason why he stopped this painful behavior. During this class, he made sure he stayed as far away as possible from me. I was so glad to be able to breathe again and not be dragged around. Today we were playing tennis, and I was doubtful everyone would get a chance to play. The class was partnered up, and we waited in line for our chance. Connor and I were at the end of the line.
“Care to explain what that display was this morning? You could have fooled me,” I thought I could hear jealousy in Connor’s voice.
“Nate was playing the game, and I wasn’t going to let him win this round,” I said, trying to convince myself more than Connor.
“Yeah right, Indy.” I didn’t have Connor convinced. Hey, I didn’t really have myself convinced either.
We stood in silence for a little bit longer. Nessa and Brandon were playing each other inside the court. Neither of them was doing very well, but that was only because they were laughing too much. The teachers had given up trying to get everyone to take this seriously. Recreational Activities was usually the easy subject and one you didn’t have to try hard to get a passing mark.
“Why don’t you publically break up with him?” asked Connor.
“I love the way you think,” I said.
I looked up into Connor’s eyes and tried to project a cheeky look. I had to make this seem believable and having a poor reason to break up with him would seem too petty. I had ‘til tomorrow to think of something good.
Connor nodded his head over toward a tree a few meters away where Nate and Mr. Hopwood were in a heated discussion. I didn’t think they were arguing—their body language didn’t represent that. I wish I was one of those birds sitting in the branches. I bet the conversation would be enticing.
Nate patted Hopwood on the back as he walked away. I watched him walk up to Mark and slot himself into that conversation. There was no indication that Nate was angry or upset a few seconds ago. He looked my direction, stared deep into my eyes and did the one thing I had never expected—he blushed and smiled.
Nessa and Brandon finished their game and came to stand next to Connor and me. They were chatting wildly about a family get together that they were attending. Brandon’s parents had been asking for weeks to meet Nessa, and he had finally given in and chosen a family member’s birthday as the right time.
It was now our turn to play. We made our way to the nets.
“Stop, I want Nate to play Indy instead,” said Hopwood.
Had this been what Nate and Hopwood’s little conversation had been about? Connor was annoyed. We had planned on stuffing around. Neither of us had wanted to play, and we were going to make the most of it. Connor now looked at me, as if he was going to disagree with Hopwood’s decision. I shook my head. I could have some fun with Nate now.
He had replaced Connor on the other side of the net. He wasn’t taking this seriously either. I, on the other hand, had changed my mind about this game. For me, it had become a deadly serious tournament.
I positioned myself into a serving position, threw the ball up into mid-air, and slammed the ball over the net. Nate was paying no attention and could not prevent the ball from smashing directly into his nose. Blood sprayed out all over his face and painted the green cement.
Hopwood came running over with a towel, but it was not needed. Before my eyes, Nate was healing. The blood flow slowed and clotted by the time Hopwood reached him. A devilish look lit up Nate’s face.
“You want to play that way, let’s do it!”
&n
bsp; With that comment, Nate sailed the ball back to me. I had no time to hit it and had to jump out of the way. We had both declared war. Over and over we hit the ball. The student body was silent as they watched us attempt to hurt each other. Nate showed no mercy and I returned the favor. I was hit twice—once in the thigh, and another to my stomach. I hit the ball as hard as I could, lining up a killer shot for his neck. As I hit it, it went straight through my racket. When the game was over, we had tied on points. A few very painful points.
